I am an EMT and researcher. I currently contribute to research at the Department of Emergency Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, in the Emergency Medical Services group. I study how patients and clinicians make decisions together under conditions of uncertainty and urgency.

I’m especially interested in psychiatric emergencies and the questions of agency, authority, and responsibility that arise.

My other primary interests are institutional governance; the history of science and medicine; and the role of healthcare institutions in civic life and democracy.

Previously, I led civic organizations, including Democracy House, Register2Vote.org, and Lead for America. I studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Tufts University and completed science coursework at Harvard University.

I live in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
